EPIS - Electronic product identification system
All tools and equipment are subject to wear even with the best care and maintenance and, depending on the load and use conditions, can even be damaged. The employers' and professional liability association's rules (BGR) therefore require annual inspections with written documentation. A repair must also be documented in writing. This is made considerably easier with EPIS, the electronic product identification system. Thanks to modern RFID technology, the registering, management and identification of all products is easier and error-free.
EPIS essentially consists of four elements:
1. RFID transponder:
One of four RFID transponders available to choose from is attached to each product which is to be electronically managed. The unmistakeable code of each transponder (tag) makes each product uniquely identifiable. Depending on the model and product, transponders can be attached by means of a wire loop or Dyneema rope, sewn in, screwed on and/or glued on. They resist temperatures of -25°C to +70°C. Die Under normal circumstances, transponders have a life of at least 10 years.
2. Mobile data recording device MDE :
The mobile writer/reader is used to initialise the transponders and at the same time to load product-specific data. The data is transferred without contact and can only be changed by authorised persons. That ensures a high degree of security against manipulation and inadvertent changing of the data. During a test, the data of a product can also be read out and temporarily stored in the mobile data recording device. The MDE is equipped with software in different languages, e.g. German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Hungarian, Spanish and Rumanian. Its robustness (class of protection IP 65) makes it suitable for even the most adverse conditions.
3. Docking station:
The docking station is the easy to handle interface with the PC. It is compatible with all Windows versions from Windows 98. The mobile writer and reader is simply plugged into the docking station to start the data synchronisation with the database. At the same time, the MDE is recharged.
4. EVAP database:
The registered product data is managed using the corresponding EVAP database. You can print out useful reports and inventory lists at any time by outputting the data via the Excel interface and further processing it in a spreadsheet.
Advantages of using EPIS:
- You can conveniently manage products registered and tested with EPIS at your PC:
- Calendar function - You see at a glance which equipment and tools are due for testing
- EPIS organises, plans and documents regular maintenance and service intervals for you
- It is possible to prepare inventory lists and product cycle analyses using an Excel interface
- Equipment already in use can be subsequently integrated in EPIS
- The user interface is equipped with a user-friendly, intuitively understood Icon bar
- Equipment and other resources without RFID transponders can also be managed
- Many hoisting, lashing and fall arrester products are equipped with RFID transponders in the factory and only have to be initialised
