Ensure that the shackle pin has been correctly screwed into the shackle eye, i.e. tightened hand-tight
and then retightened with a spanner or pliers, so that the collar of the pin
sits securely on the shackle eye.
Ensure that the shackle pin is the right length so that the pin can be screwed all the way into the shackle eye.
Incorrect pin fit can arise as a result of a bent pin, too small thread or offset
shackle eyes. Under these circumstances you should never use the shackle. Always replace a shackle pin with one of the same size, the same type and the same make, to ensure the working load limit (WLL) is maintained. Choose the right type of shackle and the relevant working load limit (WLL) for the respective application. If extreme circumstances or shock loads could occur, this in particular must be taken into account when choosing the shackle.
Please note that standard shackles are not suitable for lifting loads.
Ensure that the shackle carries the load correctly, i.e. in alignment with the centre axis of the shackle body.
Avoid bending loads, unstable loads and overloading.
