"Bündnis für Familie" - family alliance

During an official event in "Oberhausen's best living room", the palace, on 12 December 2007, Lord Mayor Klaus Wehling named Evers GmbH the "exemplary family-friendly company 2008 in Oberhausen".
Among other things, the award also includes a prize of 1,000 Euro. Evers GmbH doubled the amount and donated it to "Lunch for children in Oberhausen."
All Germany is discussing a shortage of skilled employees, demographic change and the compatibility of career and family. Oberhausen too. Yet here people are not only talking about it but are doing something too.
This year, the town of Oberhausen organised the "Exemplary family-friendly company in Oberhausen" competition for the second time. The competition has two categories: Companies with up to 50 employees and companies with more than 50 employees.
The competition focuses on topics concerning the compatibility of career and family:
- Flexibility of working hours, breaks and holidays
- Work location arrangements
- Information and communication channels within the company
- Service for families
- Financial grants for families
A family-friendly company could, e.g. give its employees the opportunity to work for a few hours during their parental leave, so that they maintain contact with the company, their work and their colleagues. Other possibilities are granting special leave or financial grants in difficult family situations. The idea is to draw up individual and creative solutions for the compatibility of career and family.
